You bought an impression

Your ad worked. Your targeting worked.
Nobody who clicked converted to a lead .
The campaign ran for three weeks. It spent what it was supposed to spend. The report came back healthy: impressions delivered, click-through in range, cost per click nothing to worry about. Leads: none.
So you look at the ad. Then the audience. Then the budget. Everybody debugs upstream, because upstream is where the dials are.
You omit one thing. The human brain.
The fast part of the mind decides whether something is for you before you have read anything, and it decides using whatever you were already carrying. Someone who typed a question into a box arrives carrying the question. Someone who saw your ad between a friend's holiday photo and a video of a dog arrives carrying nothing.
You bought an impression. Attention was not included. Intent was never on sale.
Carrying nothing means something specific: no problem yet, no category, nobody to compare you to. And in your analytics, that click looks exactly like the one from a search. That's your impression. But it isn't: it's coming from social media.
Which is where the page fails. Your page assumes a reader who already knows why they are reading. It can assume that, because for twenty years the search box supplied the reason. Paid social doesn't. It never did.
Paid-era traffic gets more expensive every year. Meta told its own shareholders this quarter that impressions delivered rose 14% and the average price per ad rose 12%. The mistake hasn't changed. The bill has.
Paid social still works. It works when the ad does the job the search box used to do: install the problem and hand the visitor a reason before they land. Most first campaigns skip that and sell to someone who hasn't got the problem yet.
Then you grade the campaign against the few people who could act this week, decide the creative failed, and change the creative.
Write down the search someone would have typed to arrive at your page on purpose.
If your ad doesn't say that sentence, your page is answering a question nobody asked.
